Highlight of the Month - The Case of Shannon Paulk
A case that has long haunted Autauga County is the case of Shannon Paulk. Shannon was only 11 years old when she disappeared from her home community on August 16, 2001. Shannon had been living in the Candlestick Mobile Home Park in Prattville when she went outside to play. By 3 PM her Mother really began to get concerned about Shannon's whereabouts but by 9 PM police were called and a large searched began. Two months later on October 6th Shannon’s remains are found by two rabbit hunters. The shocking discovery occurred in woods just off Autauga County Road 66 in the Autauga County Wildlife Management Area, a public hunting area about 10 miles north of Prattville. Shannon was found in a black plastic trash bag and she was bound with rope. Shannon's death as ruled a homicide.
In 2016 the case was turned over to the Cold Case department and in February 2017 a grand jury convened to go over evidence. At one point a sketch of a possible suspect had been released but in on February 15th, 2017 law enforcement made an announcement that this sketch has been retracted and concluded not valid.
To this date, no arrests have been made in the case.
